i like to play w/ autokick off, but everytime i go to the options and click player 1, it freezes. is there a file i can edit somewhere to turn it to off or what? thanks for the help

Are you selecting this option in an offline mode?
If not perhaps the game is attempting to assign auto kick to the wrong skater number which is causing the freeze. Try it from an offline game mode.
If the above is false them you might need someone else to set the value to your skater, editing the cas file manually without the ability to nop the cas checksum in the exe will return a damaged file.
