No tutorial but a bunch of helpful tools some of you might be interested in.

1) To edit 3d models used in THPS3 (.bsp, .dff) properly you'll need a pretty ancient version of 3d Max [3.1]. I found a download here which includes multiple(!) versions, an old version of Maya and other stuff. https://yadi.sk/d/73OOdDzj4OpbQ [Source: http://www.oldapps.com/forum/request-re ... 3-a-7.html].

2) You'll need a Windows Virtual PC (download available at Microsoft) for WinXP Mode to install and run the program.

3) Import/Export scripts for .bsp/.dff: http://www.tnlc.com/rw/files.html

Maybe there are other ways to get it to work with modern version or Blender etc. but I always encountered problems. No matter what script used, the edited .dff files always ended up being incompatible to the game.

the exact version you need is 3.1. it worked normally in win7 back in 2010. there are specific export settings you should use to get a working dff. i even had a ped model there, but never figured out proper skeleton to use, so it was a mess. but cars worked fine.

bsps produced by these scripts are in generic renderware format and they don't contain any thps specific chunks. it will only load in th3 if you keep it small enough so there is only 1 object in the map. to import larger bsps you'll ahve to use vadru's patcher

it was used to import early versions of kona and school2.

there is also this tutorial

Yes, 3.1 is also included in that download. Thanks for the additional input and links, Demo!

Just reading through the youtube comments of that tutorial: I'm not sure but it seems to be a problem with installing/running 3ds max on Windows 64 bits (and also using the compatibility mode didn't help for me). Anyway if you do encounter this problem: On WinXP in virtual mode it runs just fine.
